Vagabond Indie Craft Fair

Building WestSide Art House

The last three weeks have added an entire new community our neighborhood in San Francisco and I’ve been building up our online presence as well! Welcome to WestSide Art House! We are an event space, a yoga and movement studio, an art gallery, and a growing team of talented folks.

We’re on facebook, google calendar, twitter, yelp, youtube, and our own site with wordpress with hosting by sixarm.

Inspiration

One of the most amazing artists, in lifestyle and production of work, that I follow is Elsa Mora, I love the way she flits through medium and techniques and yet creates so thoughtfully within each. She shares enough of her life and the stories behind her art that one can walk with her, but still remain in conversation with the art itself. Her dolls are a dream and are just the thing inspiring a long term project of mine which is essentially an autobiographical dollhouse in a dress. Her papercuts are gorgeous finished objects in themselves, but as an artist of repeats and process myself, I appreciate the moments and mindset it takes to produce this kind of detail work.

Here’s her latest in paper. I could daydream for years in this and it might be finally the thing that pushes me to pull out the exacto and go to work myself.

WestSide Art House ~ New Yoga Home!

I’ve been super busy for the last few days because I’m so excited about being part of the newest yoga studio (and art gallery!) in my neighborhood. I’m on for hosting open studio time on Monday afternoons ~yoga, hula hoops, poi, dance, children, all are welcome. It’s a space I’ve been needing for a while and I’m so happy to be part of the creation and sharing it with others. A bit later on Mondays I’m teaching an actual class about understanding your range of motion and body mechanics and then using your awareness to go deeper and create new flexibility. We are taking a close look at places in the body and their relation to habits in daily living, then experimenting with present range, and finally taking some long postures where gravity, strength, and understanding have some time to work on us for change. It’s for all levels and fits with one of my favorite principles of yoga practice ~ simply making time to observe and understand. As Yogananda says, when we understand and appreciate all that is positive around and within us in the present, it becomes easier to recognize those choices that will create more of the same and growth for the future (my paraphrase!).
