Adventuring Sage Cable Vest–Finished by Naoko

I’ve been following the progress of Ravelry user naokojee as she creates a beautiful version of my Cable Vest pattern.

She started on January 30th and is already done!  Elann sock yarn looks like a perfect match, which is great as it is easy to find and comes in many colors.  Hope her husband knows how lucky he is!  The fit looks great, I love the shoulder definition provided by the cables and the length looks perfect on him. I’ve been thinking of ways to re-work this pattern for women and kids as the texture is lovely and provides a bit of weighty warmth which is perfect for transition seasons.  Congrats Naoko!

    Hi, Even–

I loved your pattern for the crocheted/felted leaf rug in Interweave Crochet magazine a while back. I’m trying to work on it now, but I am confused as to how to get the leaf “pair.” Do I work each leaf separately, tie it off, then tie two leaves together to form the “stem” that gets pulled through the canvas? Or, do I make one leaf, leave a 4″ tail still attached to that leaf, make a second leaf attached to that, and then use that 4″ tail between the two leaves as the “stem”? Maybe it’s none of the above, but I’m very new to crochet and just loved this project and I’m hoping you can help my tiny little brain out with this.

Thank so much and have a wonderful day,

    Dawna Swiedom

    Hi Dawna,
Thanks for asking! You don’t need to work the leaves separately…
You work one leaf and then come back down the stem of that leaf, when you run to the end of that stem, you just start the chain for then next leaf. You will end in the same place you started-in the middle of the leaves at the stem. Tie the ends together here in a square knot so they can’t come undone. You don’t need to weave them in as they will felt together. Let me know if it is still confusing, I can draw a little picture for you, sometimes that’s the best way!

Thanks so much for your quick response, Even. A little picture might help if you don’t mind as I’m a pretty visual learner. I’m going to run right off and give your instructions a try and let you know how it works out.

Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it. Just reading your blog makes me feel more relaxed 🙂

    Hello Even,
Thank you for your post. I just came across it.
The vest was a good concentrating project. Loved it. I still love the design, and happy how it came out. My son also understood how I needed to focus, and left me alone.

I’ve been considering making one for him (just turned 5), but need to wait till it gets much cooler. I can touch cotton, but not wool yarn yet. Looking forward to the re-work. : )

Thank you again for creating and sharing your design.
    Regards,
    Naoko
