I’m on a video kick lately… If you have browsed the videos online about asanas or other aspects of yoga, you know they are kind of a mixed bag. I do think Paramahansa Yogananda teaching us westerners how to sleep is a treasure! Patrick and Takako’s short videos from Yogagarden in Yokohama are sweet, centered, and actually teach you how to take your asana practice a bit deeper in ways that are practical for beginners.
Here they show how to enter lotus posture without placing strain on the knees or ankles. I think the advice they show about hip rotation is also useful in other asanas like tree pose, toe stand, pigeon, and even standing bow pose. (All postures where the knee is opening, but if the hips are not as much a potential for injury is opened.)
